How does real-time conference translation work?

ProxVox captures the presenter's speech, converts it to text, and translates it into 80+ languages simultaneously. Attendees join via a URL or QR code on any device and read live captions in their chosen language. No hardware or interpreter is required.

Do attendees need to download an app?

No. Attendees join through any web browser using a session code or QR code. A native iPhone app is also available for a dedicated listening experience with background audio.

How many languages does ProxVox support?

ProxVox supports 80+ target languages including regional dialects. Presenters can speak in up to 5 source languages simultaneously depending on the plan.

Is ProxVox a replacement for a professional interpreter?

ProxVox provides AI-powered real-time caption translation and is well suited for conferences, corporate meetings, webinars, and events where live captioning in multiple languages is needed. For legal or diplomatic proceedings requiring certified interpretation, a professional interpreter is still recommended.

What should I do if a brand name or product term is mispronounced in the live captions?

ProxVox lets you add brand names, product terms, and acronyms to a custom glossary. On Pro plans and above, you can specify exactly how each term should sound using IPA phoneme notation, then listen to a preview before your event goes live. Changes take effect immediately, even during an active session.

Can I test whether the system will recognise my custom terms correctly?

Yes. ProxVox includes a glossary validation tool where you can speak your custom terms aloud and see how the speech-to-text engine interprets them in real time. If a term is not being recognised correctly, you can adjust the pronunciation and test again until it is accurate.

What counts as a "minute"?

One minute is deducted per wall-clock minute while your session is running. Billing pauses automatically after 5 minutes of silence, when you use Coffee Break, or when you disconnect. Unused prepaid minutes are always refunded at the end of your session.

Do my prepaid minutes expire?

Never. Unlike competitors, your minutes stay in your account indefinitely. Use them whenever you need them.

What's the difference between source and target languages?

The source language is what the presenter speaks (1 with Micro, 2 with Starter, up to 3 with Pro, up to 4 with Event, up to 5 with Growth). The target language is what each attendee chooses to hear. Micro, Starter, and Pro include 8 standard languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Italian). Event and Growth unlock all 81 languages, including regional dialects.

Can I try before buying?

Yes. Every account gets one free 30-minute demo: a fully functional session with up to 3 source languages, up to 3 attendees, all 81 target languages, and the iPhone attendee app. No card required. After the demo, pick a paid package to keep going.
